This internal service is available to residents as a Nurse Practitioner meets with residents bi-weekly to assess their psychiatric needs. This service can be delivered externally as needed. Transportation is provided to residents for this service.

The Mississippi State Veterans Home of Oxford provides Hospice Services of Palative Care to improve the quality of life of each resident. A staff physician and assistant staff physician work as a team assessing, planning, and implementing nursing services and certified CNA's to work with patients providing restorative care. Hospice pays for medications and equipment related to diagnosis by physicians. The general scope of Hospice services provides free of charge beds, oxygen, air mattresses, nebulizers, wheelchairs with gel cushion seats, hygiene supplies, nutritional supplements, and wound care. The primary goal of Hospice is to provide restorative care for maximizing independence with diagnosed ailments. The secondary goal of Hospice is to provide comfort in the end of life care. A social worker and spiritual counseling for patients and families are made available through Hospice. Hospice is a 24 hour service as needed.
The Mississippi State Veterans Home of Oxford provides an optimal environment for wound healing. The Holistic Approach includes dietary services, physician services, family nurse practitioners, occupational, physical, and speech therapies, direct care workers, and housekeeping extending a team environment effort for optimal care of ulcers, skin tears, and injury. Equipment is available for use such as: air mattresses, pressure pads, positioning devices, and heal protectors, but not limited to this. 24 hour care is delivered for wound care in the facility.
The Physical Therapy programming at the Mississippi State Veterans Home of Oxford consists of ambulation training, balance techniques, endurance, and strength. Physical Therapy is made available Monday-Friday during business hours of 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
The Mississippi State Veterans Home of Oxford offers the service of Massage Therapy. This service is rendered to residents free of charge by an independent contractor once to twice monthly on Wednesdays with a waiver for use of lotions and creams. The feet, back, shoulders, and upper and lower extremities are targeted to promote circulation and relief of pain.
The Mississippi State Veterans Home of Oxford offers the service of Speech Therapy. This service is rendered to residents to optimize communication, cognition, and the ability to swallow. This service is available to all residents on a need basis. The service is offered Monday- Friday during business hours of 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
The Occupational Therapy programming at the Mississippi State Veterans Home of Oxford consists of goal setting to increase independence of activities in daily living. Self care training is planned individually and implemented in a one on one environment with the needs of residents assessed daily. Occupational Therapy is made available Monday-Friday during business hours of 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
