The Mississippi State Veterans Home of Oxford supports an environment of stimulating activities that enhance quality living. The different hobbies and functions are developed to promote an atmosphere where residents are rewarded through participation in self directed and group activities with staff, family, and community involvement surrounding them with support. Our mission is in reaching every resident to be as active as possible and create the life they choose. The activities include: billiards, checkers, dominoes, bingo, book mobile, devotion, exercise, gardening, horseshoes, karaoke, monthly birthday parties, morning strolls, television watching, outings to eat, rocket ball, shopping and many more.
The Mississippi State Veterans Home of Oxford has a tremendous community support for entertainment as live music is scheduled weekly, or participants enjoy performing karaoke. Some of the creative venues of our residents and community are written works by our own resident authors, writers in the community, and other artists of various walks of life with encouraged participation. Entertainment is scheduled monthly for weekly enjoyment. Entertainment is scheduled during business hours of 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and some weekends.
The Mississippi State Veterans Home of Oxford celebrates all holidays with activities of parties and festivities, special music and featured guests. Each holiday is celebrated with the fervor of the season including: New Years Day, Easter Eggstravaganza, 4th of July, Independence Day, Veterans' Day, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, etc� Residents are given opportunities to participate in all special activities of their choosing.
The Social Organization of the Mississippi State Veterans Home of Oxford consists of internal councils including the Residents' Council and Family Council that makes decisions through open meeting input to guide the home in standards, direction, and organization. Meetings are held monthly with votes and scheduling of residents in participation of all activities.
The Social Organization structure of residents' has developed a Checkers Club, Dominoes Club, and Poker Club which generates a sense of group entertainment for those residents that enjoy gaming for fun in the facility. These activities are scheduled and meet regularly Monday through Friday during business hours with special tournaments on some weekends.
